What would social media look like if it supported your definition of democracy?
A Social Media App Design by Hugo, 15, that supports his definition of democracy: Everyone is equal, you're not considered more important if you're the CEO of Amazon.
Based on the rough sketch above.
What makes this app different?
"Hugo is the person you can call 00:00 and he'll answer and help with whatever. He's dependable, hardworking and it's a joy to build a friendship with him. He's always there through thick and thin and cares so much for those around him!🌸🤍"
Wendy's bio as written by his friend, Hugo, 14.
If social media was a person with a social media bio, what would it look like?
Where your minutes...turns into hours ⏰
A profile of an extrovert outgoing and talkative person like comedian Kevin Heart. The Design Challenge was done on a WhatsApp call between two friends, Hugo and Wendy (GenZ designers), and Iske (a non-GenZ facilitator and mockup designer). Hugo and Wendy co-wrote this bio.
What is your definition of democracy? Everyone in a country can freely offer their own opinions. It's a space where people can vote and offer their opinions. Everyone has a say; a fair and free say. Everyone is equal, you're not considered more important if you're the CEO of Amazon.
Does Social media make it easier or more difficult for people to agree?
More difficult. So many different people make different videos, where the source of info differs and some people do not realize some opinions are not from experts, they’re from people who do not really know what they’re talking about.
Wendy's thoughts on Hugo's app
“In terms of sharing the low - what you’re struggling with or don’t like - that’s something that’s not often seen on social media. Kind of exposing your vulnerability. Maybe that could bring more empathy out of people. It could actually be good for your mental health.” - Wendy, 15
